I Remember When….

Just the other day while doing my daily routine of motherly multitasking; reading, cleaning and watching the kids play, my son came running over to me screaming, “Ooh mommy, look!” Having no other idea what it was except that it could be a broken toy, he handed it over to me. I smiled, picked up my smart phone and captured the moment.

My little sweet-faced cutie had no idea he’d just handed mommy one of the greatest throwbacks of my time. Immediately, the moment sent me down memory lane.

I remember when….

I was about six or seven years old and myself and a friend were playing out in the garage. We were rummaging through some boxes of old stuff that belong to my mom and came across what looked to be an oddly shaped vhs tape. Nope! It was an eight track tape of the Temptations. We did exactly what my son did, went running to my mom and asked if she could pop it into the vcr. She looked at it, busted out laughing and said, “Muffin, this isn’t a vcr tape. That’s eight track baby! That’s before your time!” She immediately walked over to the record player, leaned over to search though her stash of oldies and pulled out the corresponding vinyl recording. Vinyl records were the fad when I was a kid. We jammed out!

Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to do the same thing with my son but I will be placing this memory in his scrapbook so that when he’s my age he can share this moment with his children. I’m not sure what type of musical contraption will be the in thing then. I don’t think anything can beat digital music. Whatever the case, he’ll always have this moment.
